GUIDE

Claude for business work

Claude is now one app that decides for itself whether a request needs a quick reply or a longer agentic task. That makes it strong for knowledge work, and it makes governance the important question.

Last updated October 2026. Claude Cowork was folded into Claude in September 2026. Verify before deciding.

What it does

Claude works directly in the folders and tools you give it. It reads and writes files, uses a built-in browser, splits big jobs into sub-agents, and runs scheduled tasks unattended. It connects to your systems through MCP, skills, and plugins. Claude Code remains the separate tool for coding work.

Why a business uses it

It is the strongest option for document and knowledge work: reports, spreadsheets, research synthesis, and anything that starts with files. Because it can work in the background on a schedule, it fits recurring work that used to wait for someone to start it.

Where it needs care

Folder permissions are the main control, and they are easy to over-grant. Agentic tasks also consume more of your plan than chat, so cost and rate limits matter at volume.

  • Grant access to specific folders, not whole drives.
  • Keep backups before giving write access to important files.
  • Set the approval boundaries for anything external.
  • Watch usage if tasks run on a schedule.

How I deploy it

I scope the folders and tools, set the approval rules and the schedule, connect it to your systems through MCP, and encode your repeated work as skills so it runs the same way each time. You get a walkthrough and a clear path for changes.
